Focus
Embroidering, sewing is a key to open the door to step away from the stresses of life and a mind that is spinning with a thousand things – to step into a moment of calm.
This allows the body to calm itself, when we switch our minds off for a time. That’s why so many of us get so involved in our crafts. When we are working with our hands, thinking about the next stitch, fold or snip, we get lost in the moment. And it allows the body to press the reset button.
Wellness Sewing with Sashiko
What is it about Sashiko that feels so good when stitching. Any pattern with strong simple repetition is particularly relaxing. The stitches are repetitive, and rhythmic. As experience is gained, it becomes like breathing, rather than the conscious mind, it just flows.
How do I find sewing projects that will help me to relax
Simple designs, uncomplicated, with a repetitive element. If you are an experienced sewist, confident, freestyling may be an option to consider. In a simple shape or word, creating textures with your needle and thread, like strokes of a paintbrush. There are so many inspiring textile artists to inspire us to find our own style. Interpreting the textures of nature. Sketch doodles of the flora we see, whether in the lake district or a district line tube station plant that has self seeded in the wall. Seeing and experimenting is the thing. Not worrying about perfectionism or being seen, enjoying the moment of inspiration. The majority of artists work is never seen. Art for wellness is not about the adulation, its about what it has done for us. We know as makers, we have so many unfinished pieces, for whatever reason.
So what I am trying to say is relax into this process, the learning, the experimenting, trying new mediums, on your journey to finding your thing, what brings you joy and peace.

Demystifying Creativity – Grayson’s Art Club
Demystifying art and creativity, loving it for it’s purest sense of expression.
Honestly art and creativity can feel elitist – the difference between a crafts person and an artist is our own perception. Almost as though we hold back because we are afraid to be judged for our ability or perceived lack of it. Yet that’s totally missing the point.
And Grayson lifts the veil of elitist nonsense to expose the true beauty of connection, shared emotion and inspiration that art creativity in all it’s forms can bring.
