Maskne – how can I prevent it?
A Maskne Kit, who would have known just a short while ago that this would have been a handbag essential for us all now.
It really is manageable, and I will share with you some of these brilliant, natural and simple solutions that have been effective.
What causes Maskne and Acne Flare ups?
Both with the mask we choose and the the beauty routine adjustments and products that can make the nightmare a dream. So let’s get to it.
Increased redness and blemishes is due to the skin being exposed to the increased warmth and higher levels of humidity due to trapped exhaled air under the face mask. The pH balance of the skin is affected. And due to the high moisture levels the skin perspires less, the pores get clogged easily and the acne causing bacteria grows and leads to breakouts.

Each day, use two or more masks, the more often you change them the better for your skin.
Best Face Mask to reduce Maskne skin irritation
3 Things that are important to your skin with your mask habits:
- NATURAL FABRIC MASK Choose a fabric that is 100% cotton or silk. Choose a fine weave fabric, lightweight, with a nose bridge wire and adjustable ear toggles for a perfect fit. Liberty Tana Lawn is a lovely fabric to use, silky soft, breathable and oh so pretty too.
- KEEP IT CLEAN – take spare masks out with you every day. Change your mask when you feel it has got damp. The more the better to be frank.
- LAUNDERING – wash your mask every day you use it. The detergent can cause irritation to sensitive skin, so use a natural unscented brand and rinse completely. Don’t use fabric conditioner as this stays in the fibres of the fabric and makes your skin explode with irritation.
