COURSE Beginner Hand Sewing & Sashiko DECEMBER

£60.00

Sashiko and hand sewing cam be the most amazing calming experience when creating with rhythmic hand sewing – the sound of the thread pulling through the fabric, and getting lost in the creative moment.  Often we focus on the physical aspect of sewing and when we don’t achieve results immediately, it causes many to give up, without ever experiencing that wonderful soothing sewing experience.

On this course we keep focus on our why, relaxing and learning to love sewing, wherever we are on our journey as we learn super practical stitching skills, and we help you to choose projects that are aligned with your creative aesthetic, minimise frustration and maximise feeling good about creating.

Six sashiko embroidery hand sewing projects using sashiko circles and stars.  It’s a wonderful journey, it would be lovely to have you along for the ride.

Overview
Wellness hand sewing and sashiko foundation course.  Learn relaxed hand sewing, wellness sewing.  How to overcome frequent beginner challenges and tangled frustrations, learn super stitching skills.

Making to learn
Hands on learning is the best, we learn while making a lavender eye pillow, after sharing the foundation knowledge we will use what we have learned to create a sashiko star lavender relaxation eye pillow.

Wellness
Most important from this course is that you learn to love the experience of sewing, and you feel good.  You are more relaxed after sewing rather than those stitching tangles aaarggghhhh moments!

We will focus on learning which aspects of sewing can really relax us and how to increase this and how to avoid frequent beginner mistakes, so we create a wonderfully relaxing experience rather than that tangled up frustration that can happen when we are learning.

Sashiko
You will learn a sashiko stitching style that is closer to the Japanese origins of this art.  Free flowing without rigid formality rather than the grid style.  If you are looking for the formal modern geometric sashiko another course may be better for you to achieve your stitching goals.

If you want to start on a journey of stitching calm as part of your wellness journey, this course gives you fabulous fundamentals of hand stitching skills while always remembering our why for stitching – joy and relaxation.  If it’s a yes, you are in the right place.

Knowledge
Sewing posture, breathing and environment
– how to gain the most relaxation even in less than ideal circumstances, how to create your own stitching wellness moment.
Materials – how to select the right materials, threads and fabrics, to achieve the results you want.
Tools – simple sewing kit that can achieve great results – explaining what they are for and how best to use them.
Stitches Back stitch (create ‘Victorian’ seams), Invisible ladder stitch (fab stitch to learn), blanket stitch (hand sewing ‘overlocker’), modern Sashiko stitch.

Confidence
Building stitching confidence, learning to overcome frequent beginner challenges is so important.  That inquisitive freeness young children have when creating is confidence, they are so focussed on the joy of the moment, the learning happens organically when they are passionate.  So let’s build on stitching confidence, so you can learn to be fearless with creating beautiful stitched pieces.

What to stitch next? – practicing the foundation skills you have learned will help you find stitching ease that brings that wonderful inner calm.  Included in the course are 6 projects in total, using sashiko star and the much loved sashiko circles.  I will show you how to stitch the circles too these too at the end of the last module.  Lavender hearts and squares, perfect for sewing gifts for loved ones.

The learning to sew with calm is the most important and valuable aspect of this course, and that needs to be done gently and without pressure and heavy expectation.
